The Lobsters began life in 1986 as a folk-rock band, playing mostly Irish-influenced music. Over the years the melodeon was added, bass players and keyboards have come and gone, but the sound remains as lively and danceable as ever.

 

The Lobster set is constantly evolving, but has at its core powerful fiddle/squeezebox-led tunes and a great selection of songs. Most of the band’s material is their own, with influences including English/Irish/Cajun/World, with more than a hint of Style Council, Bob Dylan and the Waterboys. Listen for yourself!

 

Over the years the Lobsters have played across the South West, but are most often to be found near their base in the Bristol-Bath area. They are regulars at the Prom in Bristol and The Bell in Bath. Highlights over the years include:

• Priddy Folk Festival
• Dartmouth Regatta
• Gloucester Docks Festival

 

The Lobsters play either a standalone set containing a mix of songs and tunes, or provide a ceilidh or barn dance set for called dancing. We work with a variety of callers – with the emphasis on lively and fun! We often provide music at weddings or private birthday parties.
